We make off-grid solutions so you can make an impact.
About
Radiant
We established Radiant Innovation LLC as a provider of solutions for off-grid cold storage through the subsidiary, Radiant Cold Storage LLC. Our initial products are modified, insulated shipping containers with refrigeration systems, solar power generation, and battery-based energy storage. These units enable our customers reliable 24-7 operation with robust coolers or freezers for a variety of applications ranging from farming to local produce distribution to emergency relief. In collaboration with our partners, we provide full online remote monitoring and controls for our cold-storage units such that they can be managed and supervised at all times.
We assemble our Solar-Powered Cold-Storage (SPCS) units, both coolers and freezers, at the facility of our partner, Palmer DCS in Englewood, Colorado, from which we have shipped units to multiple sites in Colorado and in Southern California. We have built in-house simulation tools to enable regionally specific designs to facilitate deployment of units over a broad and more diverse geographical region. These models are now being refined for implementing our patent-pending controls for off-grid unit operation.
Our Core
Mission and Values
We at Radiant Innovation are committed to providing environmentally friendly and economical off-grid, cold-storage solutions. Our company seeks to enable our customers with freedom and flexibility to operate with new models for local food production, food distribution, and emergency relief for all communities without connecting to the electric grid.
Our story
History
Radiant Innovation LLC began in 2020 to provide a solution enabling local agriculture and equitable access to healthy, locally grown food through off-grid solar installations. Prof. Greg Jackson (Colorado School of Mines) designed a possible solution for grid-independent, cold-storage solutions to support broad commercial and not-for-profit networks for locally grown food distribution. With advances in solar photovoltaics, lithium-ion batteries, and power electronics, the Radiant team saw an opportunity with novel model-predictive control strategies (patent pending) to develop a reliable off-grid cold-storage solution that could not only support food production and distribution, but also provide rapidly deployable solutions for emergency relief.
Radiant deployed its first two Solar-Powered Cold-Storage (SPCS) units, both coolers, in 2022 within the Denver metro area, the first to an urban farm and the second to a local food-distribution hub. This was followed up with the deployment of several more SPCS units, all freezers, in 2023 in southern California to support emergency food storage in collaboration with partners at Abound Food Care in Orange County. Since its initial deployments, Radiant Innovation has continued to grow and install units in both Colorado and California and is working with partners to expand its scope to other regions of the U.S. and beyond. With Dr. Karin Jackson joining the leadership team, Radiant has garnered research funding from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture to develop its technology further to ensure reliable and safe off-grid, cold-storage for a broader range of climates and applications.
